The following projects were
performed by EarthWorks Environmental, Inc. in developing the Matrix
Enhanced Treatment System, "METS", for widespread commercial use.
These projects were completed in real world conditions and were required
to meet remediation standards established by regulatory authorities.
The soil was treated with no special preparation or enhancement other
than screening of excess debris as noted.
The projects were completed
using either the METS concept, "Project A", or METS equipment in a
variety of industrial and commercial applications and soil types.
The small "Eureka 40" pre-production unit is designed to process 40 tons
of soil per hour while our larger "Yuba 160" production rig can treat
over 160 tons of soil per hour on site and on time.
In all cases, the
treatment method involved either a bio or chemical reagent process to
completely degrade the contaminant. It was our further goal to
encounter increasingly more difficult soils and contaminants. We
are always continuing our efforts to work with more difficult soils and
increased soil volumes, however, it has never been our goal to compete
with our clients nor purchasers of equipment, so we intentionally left
the soil remediation/contract market in 2004. |

Gasoline and
diesel fuel |
Average level
of contamination: |
3800 PPM

Field Project
#3:
Project
Location: |
California
North Coast |
Volume of
soil: |
1915 yd3 |
Contamination
type(s): |
Gasoline and
MTBE |
Average level
of contamination: |

gasoline; 31 PPM MTBE |
Results from
confirmation testing: |
Non-detect

Non-detect for MTBE in all samples (sensitivity at parts-per-billion).
Sixteen samples showed varying levels of BTEX (sensitivity at
parts-per-billion), the highest of which was 280 PPB total Xylenes in one
sample. After two weeks of additional residence time, retest proved
non-detect. |
